The top two spoken languages in Peru are Spanish and Quechua. Quechua is part of the Quechuan language family. Quechua was the language of the Incas and was made an official language by the military government in 1968. The dominant language however in urban areas is Spanish. Peruvian Spanish has been spoken in Peru since 1532. Spanish is part of the Indo-European language family and the Romance language branch. There are four major dialects of Spanish that are spoken in Peru. They are Andean Spanish, Peruvian Coast Spanish, Andean-Coastal Spanish, Amazonic Spanish, and Equatorial Spanish. In 1532, Spanish soldiers landed in Peru with the intentions of taking over a rich country. On November 16, 1532, The Spanish army took over the Incan Empire. Spanish is now the most widely spoken language in Peru reguarding the government, the media, and the education system.Throughout the country's regions there are slightly noticeable changes in the way people speak Spanish. The different dialects have to do with the regions in Peru. For example the four main dialects that were mentioned above may differ in the mountains and the jungle. There are many different types of languages within the country of Peru and they each have a different history behind them but the most common language of Peru is Spanish.
