Migration Patterns
The net migration of Peru is -2.4/1,000. Negative net migration indicates that the country is a migration source and not a destination meaning that people usually do not immigrate to Peru, but they are usually emigrating from there.
In 2000, the net migration rate was -1.1, and in 2005 it was -1.01. In 2010, the net migration rate was -0.93. So, over time, less and less people were leaving the country as the country was improving. However, there has been some event that occurred over the past 5 years that has caused more people to leave the country because of pull factors to other countries or push factors from Peru, thus causing the net migration rate to be even lower. This is why it is negative now. However, the net migration over the past 16 years has always been negative. Which means that many people were leaving the country, more so than immigrating there.
